تَناولت الدراسة بالتحليل العامل المذهبي في السياسة الخارجيِّة الإيرانيَّة من خلال توضيحِ أهم الفواعل الرسميَّة وغير الرسميَّة المؤثرة في السياسة الخارجية الإيرانية بشكلٍ عام، إلى جانب إلقاء الضوء على أهم بنود الدستور الإيراني والنظريات التي ساهمت في توضيح تأثير العامل المذهبي في السياسة الخارجية الإيرانية.
واستعرضت طبيعة العلاقات الإيرانية-السوري، وموقف النظام الإيراني من الثّورة السوريَّة، ثم انتقلت للحديث عن دور العامل المذهبي في السياسة الخارجية الإيرانية تجاه سوريَّة مع التركيز أكثر على الفترة اللاحقة لاندلاع الثّورة السوريَّة عام 2011، لتوضيح مدى التغلغل الإيراني في سوريَّة وأهمية العامل الديني –المذهبي في تحقيق أهدافها وطموحاتها التي يتصدرها " تصدير الثّورة الإسلامية " وتحقيق الهيمنة الإقليمية من خلال دعم مشروعها الصفوي التوسعي.
